Purchasing offset credits means investing in a project that contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by developing new sources of renewable energy or by saving energy. As a result, by purchasing a number of carbon credits equivalent to your own emissions or that of your business, you end up with zero emissions.

All of the projects that issue credits distributed by ZEROCO2 are recognized by the two largest certification programs presently in place, namely the Gold Standard and VCS, ensuring that the chosen emissions reduction programs are the best on the market.
|
| The criteria for these two certifications are very strict and rigorous, guaranteeing for those taking part in the program that their actions will have a real impact on climate change. Since additionality is one of the most important assessment criteria, Gold Standard and VCS apply strict evaluation measures during the project certification process to ensure that the additionality to existing business activities is real. As well, the projects that we offer are managed by one of the best-known suppliers of offset credits in the world. In addition, the credits offered by ZEROCO2 are recorded in APX and Markit public registers, which ensures a participant that his or her credits will only be bought and sold once. |
ZEROCO2 has developed international alliances allowing it to offer the highest quality carbon credits, certified by the Gold Standard and VCS, at lower prices than other organizations presently involved in the voluntary offset market. Also, its significant buying power, greater than other groups offering similar alternatives, allows it to offer very competitive prices.

ZEROCO2 offers carbon credits certified by the Gold Standard program. Gold Standard offset credits are among the best credits presently offered on the voluntary carbon market. |
| Projects financed by Gold Standard take into account the criteria of the UNFCCC, required under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol: |
| 1. |
Must be real (have happened) |
| 2. |
Greenhouse gas reduction would not have happened anyway i.e. is "additional" to business-as-usual activity |
| 3. |
Measurable, permanent (not just temporarily displace emissions) |
| 4. |
Independently verified and unique (not used more than once to offset emissions). |
|
| The Gold Standard also implies that the renewable energy and energy efficiency projects take into account the sustainable development of the host community (increase in standard of living, job creation, pollution reduction, etc.). As well, the Gold Standard Foundation only gives certification after a third party has verified and validated the project. |

The ZEROCO2 portfolio also contains credits approved by the VCS program. VCS certification is increasingly required as the standard of reference and guarantees, in all transparency, the security and traceability of offset credits from their issuance to their cancellation. As well, the VCS offers buyers the certainty that their credits are only bought and sold once. |
| As with the Gold Standard certification, the VCS’s criteria is recognized as equal to that of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol and includes third-party verification. |

Moreover, some projects are monitored using the Social Carbon Methodology (SCM), which was developed by The Ecologica Institute. Social Carbon is usually used in conjunction with another offset standard, such as VCS. It is a methodology that focuses on enhancing co-benefits such as biodiversity and active participation of local communities.

With the addition of a new hybrid model combining the planting of trees and the purchase of carbon credits, ZEROCO2 is without a doubt the best performing program in offsetting greenhouse gasses and fighting climate change presently available.
